Burn-This-App-LogoSo… How is everyone surviving this February?  It hard to believe it’s almost over. I have been busy trying to stay warm like the rest of the North East.  I have been tinkering about with some new workouts and apps.  One that I am very excited to tell you about is BurnThis.  I became an ambassador of this great community in the beginning of February and now that I have have time to settle in, I wanted to share the awesomeness with you!

Baked Apple Oatmeal – recipe

So Sunday night I decided to get domestic and bake. One of the dishes was something that Nikki over at My Life, My Way posted back in December that was Pinterest inspired.  It’s a baked apple oatmeal cooked up in the crock pot.  If you have not seen my picture on Instagram yet, here it is:

Doesn’t it look yummy?  This really is a super easy recipe. I do suggest you use a liner for your crock pot since there will be a baked on “crust”.  Save yourself scrub time later! However, soaking did the trick for me. Also if you like your oatmeal thick, cut back just a tad on the water. 
Just add the ingredients as they are listed layering each on top of the others.

You will need:
2 apples diced ( I used gala because that’s what I had but Granny’s would be great too)
Sprinkle the apples with cinnamon.
Then sprinkle 1/3 cup brown sugar (I used light brown) over that.
Next add 2 cups of oatmeal evenly.
Top is all off with 4 cups of water. 
Cover and bake on low for 8-9 hours.
That’s it! Easy Peasy right?
I added 1/2 cup of chopped pecans. Raisins would be good.  Or how about mixed berries or peaches with some cream added just before you sink your spoon in? 
I was also asked about the nutritional value of this dish so I worked it up on MFP as a recipe that serves 4 people ( minus the pecans )

I have to say, this was a nice treat to wake up to a house that smelled like apple pie! And the best part of course was the convenience.
