Vacation week recap

Happy Sunday! I was lucky enough to have this past week off from work. Dan was working and Allyson had school so needless to say, I had A LOT of me time! Monday was windy and cold so I decided to take my cardio to the gym. My goal was 40 mins so I decided to start with 30 mins on the arc trainer then finished with a 15 min run on the treadmill. My calves felt tight afterward so I did some hardcore stretching. Then went home an did another working out to a routine from the Tone it Up plan. I am really loving these workouts! They are challenging but fun to do at the same time! That afternoon, Al and I went to Home Depot to pick out veggie plants and seeds to plant in our garden. Al wanted to pick them out together as this was my Mother’s Day gift to me.

Tuesday came and I had a hard time walking. I had knots in my calves the size of baseballs. Talk about pain- OMG! It hurt so bad! I kept the WO inside with strength training. I am loving that I can now deadlift 50 lbs and DL row the same amount.
Wednesday I got the planting done and then headed to my sister’s house to hang for a while. Her boys were at school but I did get some quality time with my niece’s babies that my sis babysits. It was a great afternoon! I also scored two rocking chairs which was totally unexpected. She mentioned getting rid of them and offered for me to take them! They look great on my front porch!
Thursday I was still having leg trouble so I did some more TIU workouts and did some house cleaning and relaxing. Friday I was determined to enjoy a run in the park. I was unsure of how my legs would respond but it turned out well. I ran/walked the first three miles in 34 minutes which was my best time yet! I finished 3.40 miles in 40 minutes. After some stretching I really didn’t want to leave. The weather was beautiful! I decided to find a shady spot and do a resistance band WO from TIU X3 and yoga before heading home for more me time reading and relaxing.
Saturday I didn’t WO. I did spread some QT with my BFF and her family before food shopping. We hadn’t seen each other in months so it was great catching up! Last night was the 6ABC TV special Best of the Class 2013. As some of you are aware, Al is #1 in her class and was invited to participate last month down at Drexel University. It was a great opportunity and she had a great time. We didn’t know if any of her interview would be aired. So we were excited for 7:00 to come around! She made it on for a split second but it was exciting non the less! The viewers had a chance to tweet a message and so naturally, I sent a tweet and it showed up on the air. I think that embarrassed her a little but what can I say? I am a proud mama! We recored the show on the old VCR. When it was over, we watched some old videos from when she was 1-2 years old. We had a good laugh at comments made, our fashions of the decade and how the then little nieces, nephews and sister’s personalities are not far off from how they are now.
So, here I am on this Sunday morning. Thinking back on the week, I really enjoyed my time off. I feel very relaxed. I got done most of everything I wanted to do which was not much. I enjoyed working out for 1-2 hours a day without needing to worry about making dinner or leaving work on time to get to the park before the crowds showed up for baseball games… I even finished reading my book. The weather for the most part was cooler and the rain that we were to have never really happened. Dan and I are getting ready to take a long walk before it does start raining. Then after that, who knows what we’ll do. I plan to taking today hour by hour to enjoy my last few hours of freedom. It’s back to work tomorrow….

  1. Sounds like you got some good workouts in this week! And isn't embarrassing your kid your job as a mom? Plus a tweet isn't that big of a deal 🙂 Sometimes if I do hills I get major calf cramps, so I will do self massage (in addition to stretching) to help lessen the cramp. Get a monokini bathing suit you like yet?

  2. Yeah I think the knots are from the Arc machine and trying to keep the pressure off my toes so that they wouldn't go numb. I don't normally use it. I tried massage, rolling out, icy hot… Nothing but time helped.
I did see a few bathing suits on line but I think I will need to try the monokini on in person. I think I will go shopping the beginning of June. I have my first beach trip June 22! I can't wait to run on the boardwalk and sit on the beach with my sisters!

  3. Sounds like a great few days! Try foam rolling with the tightness! Also try getting a lacross ball and rolling it around the sore area. Both work really well for me. If all else fails book yourself a massage! :o)

  4. I tried rolling, balls, massage – I even let my niece dig her toes into the muscle! LOL They were so tight! The spa would have been the next step for sure! I really enjoyed myself this week. It was hard to get up this morning.

  5. I'm catching up on blog reading and grinning ear-to-ear reading about your workouts. It wasn't that long ago when you weren't do anything and LOOK AT YOU NOW! So awesome, Mary.

Sounds like you had a great vacation.

  6. That means a lot Jill! I did feel like a badass when I first tried the 50lbs LOL! It was a great week off and I'm looking forward to the long weekend ahead 🙂
