It’s an honor just being nominated

For the past several months, I am been trying hard to stay up on my blog.  I haven’t had time to do it as much as I like.  I know, I know… how can you grow your blog if you only update it twice a month?  This is why I was really excited when I saw notifications that I was nominated for a Liebster Award!  Not by one but TWO bloggers that I have been following for some time now. The first was from Jennifer at Wine to Weightlifting and the second from Cassidy at I’ll Follow You Anywhere. Both ladies rock and I look forward to their latest posts daily. This is chain letter of sorts and all in good fun. It gives readers a chance to get to know the writer better. So, without further ado, I will get on with the show!

The Rules:
  • Each nominated person must post 11 things about themselves.
  • Answer the questions that the nominator set for you.
  • Create 11 questions for the people you’ve nominated.
  • Nominate 11 people and link them to your post.
  • Go to their page and tell them and most importantly, NO TAG BACKS!
So… 11 things about me huh? Well…

  1. I am the youngest of 8 kids ( 5 girls and 3 boys )
  2. Spring and early fall are my favorite seasons.
  3. I love to garden. You will read about my latest “Digging in the Dirt Sessions” soon on this blog once the weather warms up.  My favorite part? WEEDING!  It’s a great stress reliever.
  4. I like to be busy.  You will rarely hear me talk about how I stayed home all day and did nothing. I am not a homebody.
  5. I am a metal head at heart but you will find almost every genre of music at least once on my ipod.
  6. I will not wear open toed shoes without polish on my toenails
  7. You will never see me in sweats unless I am at the gym our out for a run.  I live in my jeans- even on weekends.
  8. I have a sadistic sense of humor and will laugh at some of the most inappropriate situations.
  9. I am not a hugger and DO NOT touch my hair – even on a bad hair day.
  10. I love historical fiction and vampire/ghost stories.
  11. I love taking pictures of and touring old churches and cemeteries.  I think it has something to do with my catholic upbringing somehow. If there is a cross, statuary or steeple involved, I will take a picture of it.
Now on to the questions Jennifer selected:

What is your favorite fitness activity, and how did you get started doing it?  Hiking.  This one kind of just happened one day approx. 15 years ago.  Dan used to work 7 days on / 7 days off.  On his off days while Allyson was in daycare or school, he would go for really long walks.  Those walks then included Allyson and I on the weekends.  We evolved from local parks with wooded trails to state parks with waterfalls and look outs to hike to not long after. We will wonder for hours taking in the scenery.
What is your favorite cheat meal, and how often do you do it?  Buffalo wings and Miller Lite. I used to have this once a week when we ate out every night. But now I have it maybe once every month or two.
Most favorite “healthy” recipe? Share the link if you’d like, too!  My family favorite would be from Handle the Heat – Spicy Honey-brushed Chicken Thighs. It’s fast, easy and tastes amazing!  I also love roasting just about any vegetable tossed in EVOO and garlic – YUM
How old were you when you started taking care of your fitness? I didn’t really do too much dieting but tried to stay in shape with Pilates and hiking or long walks through my 20’s.  I did Atkins when I was turning 30 which really helped with kicking the sugar habit!  But I really got started staying focused on being healthy back in January 2012. You can read that back story here.
What is your worst bad habit? Cursing – I have the mouth of a truck driver.
Favorite place to shop? Macy’s, Ross and DSW. I am always looking for bargains and rarely pay full price for anything.
Top song on your workout/running playlist? My running playlist starts out with “These Days” by Foo Fighters – Great warm up song!
Why did you start blogging? I talk too much.  I feel the urge to tell everyone EVERYTHING. So I decided if I write it down on here, I can get the story out without having to repeat it over and over to anyone that will listen… sometimes my stories can go on forever! LOL
Do you prefer to workout at home, at a traditional gym, or a specialized workout facility? I have a gym membership but I rarely use it. I like running after work and on weekends and working out at home.  I am slowly building my home gym.
Favorite board game or smartphone game? I am not big on playing games but I do like Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble.  I get too competitive and I don’t like when I get like that so I stay away.
What vitamins or supplements do you take daily?  I am horrible about taking even a multivitamin.  I have them but never take it.

Now for Cassidy’s questions:
1. What is one thing you don’t have, you want? I don’t have air conditioning and I want a pick up truck
2. Who do you admire the most? My mom because she was a stay at home mom who raised 8 kids in a three bed/1 bath house.  She not only had her kids and husband to cook, clean and do laundry for but also her sister in-law who had a small apartment in our house.  She was always the last to sit and eat.  She ran the house on a very tight budget and we NEVER heard her complain about it. She also babysat 10 of her grandchildren on a regular basis.  The oldest two were born when I was 10 so she was pulling double duty! She also volunteered at school as a lunch mom and would babysit other school kids if their parents had trouble getting afternoon care.  Oh yeah – and she didn’t drive, drink or smoke.  My mom is a saint in my eyes.

3. Three things you can’t leave the house with?  I can not leave without my cell phone, a hair clip and my rings.

4. If you could change time, what would it be?  This is tough.. if I could go back in time, it would be early 1900’s.  I love the Victorian age.  But I think I would like to see what the future holds too.

5. What’s your ringtone? [how’s that for random!?] It’s the sound of an old telephone.  I am SOO original – LOL

6. Why did you start blogging?  The only duplicate question!
I talk too much.  I feel the urge to tell everyone EVERYTHING. So I decided if I write it down on here, I can get the story out without having to repeat it over and over to anyone that will listen… sometimes my stories can go on forever! LOL

7. What is your favorite blog to read? I have several that I look for on a daily basis – here are a few in no particular order – It’s hard to pick just one because they are all different!

JoggingJeans.com

8. Top blogging pet peeve? If someone leaves a comment about something totally unrelated to what I was talking about… I feel this way on all social media actually.  I feel like saying, “Really? Did you even read it?”  But I won’t call anyone out like that.

9. What is your favorite part of blogging? I have to say my favorite part about blogging is getting to know so may wonderful people.  It amazes me how total strangers can be so supportive of each other! I do not think I would have make it the past year on my road to getting healthy if it was not for my blogging buddies and Tweeps pushing me.

10. What do you do before bed every night? I brush my teeth, change into my pj’s and turn on the TV in my room.

11. What is your occupation[s]?  I am the customer service manager for a third party company.
Now I get to nominate bloggers of my own. I am picking bloggers that are new to me or that I only have interacted with on Twitter or Instagram so that I can get to know them better.  If you are chosen and do not wish to participate, that’s ok too.  Remember – this is just for fun!

Charlene at One Foot There
Amanda at Take Your Pic
Ok -now I need three more… hmm let’s see….

Now my questions:
  1. What was your first car and did you love it or hate it?
  2. Name one food you can not live without.
  3. What is your favorite activity/workout?
  4. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
  5. What is the worst gift you ever received?
  6. Do you have a favorite quote or saying?
  7. Name one thing you look forward to every summer?
  8. What is your favorite part about blogging?
  9. If your life was being made into a movie, who would you want to play you?
  10. What is the farthest distance you have ran?
  11. Who inspires you?
Thanks for sticking it out to the end and I hope you visit again!

  1. Loved learning all these tidbits about you! And you mom is a saint in my eyes too! Talk about woman power for sure! And thanks for the nomination 🙂

Here are some three legged dog jokes you might enjoy:
    1. Talking to dog on a walk: “Did you leave your leg at home again?”
    2. Talking to person: “You may have a purebred dog that cost thousands of dollars, but my mutt costs $2500 a leg”.
    3. To other animals in house: “You better behave or we are going to take a leg and you will look like Chloe!

  2. I REALLY enjoyed your answers!!! #8 was my favorite because I certainly feel you on that aspect. I've had a few of those which leaves me thinking 'Really?' Thanks for participating !!
