Society is F’d up

After reading posts on Facebook about the killing at Sandy Hook Elementary, I really tried hard not to react. However, the Leo in me can’t take it anymore and needs to say something- ok, a lot. So here it goes:
-Strict gun laws will not keep the guns out of the bad guys hands.
-Putting God back in the schools isn’t going to do any good either.
-Society need to stop promoting the glorification of killers.
-Stop promoting violence in every aspect of your child’s life- movies, TV, video games (your elementary school kid should not play Call of Duty!). There are age restrictions for a reason!! If you want God in your kid’s life, START AT HOME!
-Govt:Reform healthcare so that mental healthcare if fully covered…
-MEDIA: Stop showing grieving parents at the crime screen and don’t interview the children on live TV! AND Get your facts straight before reporting the wrong information. The media in my opinion is a major part of the problem. It’s ok to report breaking news and say there are no fact to report yet- stay tuned. How about seeking out the good in people and reporting more on that instead of sensationalizing evil 24/7?
I also think that we are so desensitized to what horror actually is that these assholes go into schools because of the shock value! The damage is already done in this aspect….
-However, what can we as a society do to prevent this in the future? We will always ask ourselves this question after a major tragedy. Tougher laws will be passed. More safety measures will be put in place at school and other public places…. And the evil will still find it’s way in.
I believe it starts at home. Bottom line. Be involved in your kids lives. Know who their friends are, how school is going- ask questions!! If you notice odd behavior, address it. If they ask you questions that are tough to answer, do your best to be as straight forward as possible but stay age appropriate. Hug them and tell them you love them EVERY DAY!

(I am not a doctor. I don’t know what the medical/mental history of this latest killer not do I pretend to know. These are just MY opinions.)

  1. I agree with you on all of this! I hint the media is outta control with this story. Yes it's a terrible tragedy but lea remember that the vast majority of the victims were BABIES. The fact that they are interviewing them and putting time on the news is so disrespectful and quite honestly sickening. Not to mention the pictures of grieving parents. Why? There's no need to show those pictures. Let these poor familes have some privacy. Sorry to rant but its terrible.
